Review: LittleBIGPlanet (PS3)

LittleBIGPlanet may be the first official entry from Media Molecule, creators of Rag Doll Kung Fu, into the videogame world, but don't let Rag Doll Kung Fu's "meh-ness" fool you. LittleBIGPlanet is worth your time and money in every way possible. Also: Sackboy is freaking awesome.

The PS3 may not have a ton of standout games, but LittleBIGPlanet is one of the few games that is universally loved. This adorable platformer is probably the most charming game I've ever played. Beyond that, it's boasts the most robust and easy-to-use level designer I've ever seen.

With 8 different worlds with several levels in each world, the story mode is also very diverse, but the cool part is that every level in the story mode was made with the aforementioned level editor, so anything you see in the story mode can be created in the level editor.

Like I said, the level editor is extremely easy to use. It has a ton of tools to use, and a tutorial video for every tool. There are tutorials on how to create most basic things, like enemies, vehicles, and basic levels, and after that, you pretty much know enough that you can create anything you want. You can use any of the 8 environments unlocked in the story as a backdrop for your level, and there are stickers, items, clothes, materials, and more to unlock in the story levels. You can change the lighting, camera angles, text, music, and just about everything else in your level to set the perfect mood for whatever the situation.

Even though the story mode only clocks in at round 10 hours, there's also the user-created levels. I'm not sure if I have ever seen a community as creative as the one for LBP. I've seen levels for Metal Gear Solid, Pac Man, Super Mario Bros., Grand Theft Auto, Donkey Kong, and just about any other classic franchise, all created by the LBP community with the level editor. It's not just levels based on things, either. I've seen a working basketball court, a construction zone where you can control several vehicles (bulldozer, wrecking ball, etc.), a level based on the TV show Ninja Warrior, and several other fantastically creative scenarios.

The game is also freaking GORGEOUS. The graphics would make even Pixar jealous, and the art direction is absolutely superb, adding the perfect feel to the game. The soundtrack is good, although sometimes it seems like you keep hearing the same songs over and over.

LittleBIGPlanet is a fantastic game, and one that deserves to be in any PS3 owner's library, because even though the story is pretty short, with the level editor and other user-created levels, you could theoretically play forever and never play the same level twice. 5 out of 5.

I Beat LBP

Yeah, I beat LittleBIGPlanet. It wasn't all that hard, the story mode is only about 8 hours long. I've been playing user-created levels for a while, and I found what is now one of my favorite levels, purely for originality: a working Pac-Man level. It's absolutely fantastic. I'm also hoping to write a review on LBP soon, so keep an eye out for that.

I've got to get in the bed now. I've been up for 22 hours and I'm freaking tired.

EDIT: OH FUCKING SHIT NANO STARTS TOMORROW OH SHIT I HAVE NOTHING PLANNED

Fallout 3 and LittleBIGPlanet Both Totally Rock

LittleBIGPlanet finally came in the mail today, and it's even better than the Beta was. Fallout 3 is still freaking awesome, too. In fact, I got several screenshots of the game (Click to enlarge (That's what she said)):

This is (probably) the first town you will find after leaving Vault 101, Megaton:

This is what I can only imagine is a horribly mutated cow, called a Brahmin:

I went in the women's restroom in Megaton to see if I could find anything worth stealing. This was all I found. Why are women's restrooms always so much fancier?

And then I took a couple of landscape shots for scale. If you look really hard (That's what she said), you can see what I think are the remains of the Capitol Building and the Washington Monument (the game takes place in and just outside of a post-apocalyptic Washington DC):

More Oblivion

Well, I'm level 9, and I'm Grand Champion of the Arena, I just got to the level of The Dark Brotherhood where I can access the sanctuary from the well, I'm not very far in the Fighter Guild, and I haven't even joined the Mages Guild (and I won't until I complete The Dark Brotherhood). I've played Oblivion on the 360 and had two characters, but neither one was as powerful as the character I've been playing (Pruane, named after the YouTuber Pruane2Forever). Pruane is a Dark Elf Spellsword, so while I mainly use a one-handed sword, I have some pretty good spells, too.

The night before last I had a strange dream. I was in the game Dead Rising, but there were several more friendly characters than in the real game, and the AI was substantially better. The weird thing was, my allies were mostly old Sunday School teachers and celebrities I've heard of maybe once or twice. Such a strange dream.

Then last night, I had a dream that LittleBIGPlanet wasn't delayed a week. But alas, twas a dream.

LittleBIGPlanet is Amazing.

This game freaking ROCKS. It's so simple, and yet so deep. I've seen so many awesome themed levels, like a remake of the SMB 1-1 level, the Green Hill Zone from Sonic, a Metal Gear Solid level, a remake of the obstacle course from the Ninja Warrior show, and a Grand Theft Auto themed level. I've also seen many musical levels. I think those are some of the coolest in design, because you have to set up every single not in a very 2.5D Mario Paint kind of way.

Oh, and I got a haircut last night, and I actually almost like it for once. I think it's because it doesn't actually look cut. I hate it when everything is just...cut.

Going to play more LBP, kthxbai.

O SHT

OHMYGOD

I never got an email from G4 about the LBP beta, but today I found out that USA Today was giving away 15000 beta keys, and this one was first-come first-serve, as opposed to the random drawing that G4 was doing...I FUCKING GOT IN. I'M IN THE FUCKING LBP BETA. It's only until Sunday, but still. I said I would get in, and lookey here.

FUCK YEAH

I Hate Myself.

Why? Because I've started playing World of Warcraft. Again. Yeah, I've actually tried to play twice before, once with a Dwarven Priest, and then with a Dwarven Hunter, but I found both classes to be very boring. Well, I started playing again last week, this time with a Human Rogue, and this time I'm really liking it, and I've gotten to level 16 so far. God, I hate myself.

If you didn't watch X-Play tonight, then you might not know that they are giving out 2000 LittleBigPlanet Beta keys, and tonight they gave a URL to go to for a signup form. Man, I really hope I get one of those beta keys. LBP looks like one of the best games of the year. I wonder if I got one if I could put on my resumé that I was one of 10,000 people in a closed beta for LBP? Well, after I signed up, it said that if I got one, they'd send me an email somewhere between Friday and Monday. AHAHGHAGH I HOPE I GET THAT BETA KEYYYY
