Fallout 3 Videos, A Heartfelt Poem, and a NaNo Update

I wrote an intentionally shitty poem last night.

I was sitting there, on my computer.
Not doing anything, nor harming anyone.
Just posting RickRolls, but not intentionally.
“I swear I didn't mean to, officer!”
But it was too late.

I never understood why it's still considered a poem if it doesn't rhyme. Sure, it's literature in some form or another, but I don't think it should be considered a poem. Whatever.

I finally put Fraps to a good use today. I filmed a couple of really cool parts of Fallout 3 and uploaded them to YT. The first video is a demonstration of sorts of the Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System (V.A.T.S.), one of Fallout 3's best combat options.


In this second video, I found an overturned truck, and found out the hard way that it explodes. I decided to save and blow it up intentionally, with a variety of weapons.



I have decided to go a different way with my NaNo. I can't say anything about it on account that He will find me.

Random Ramblings

Well, last night I was really mad and tired, hence the terrible blog post. Tonight I'm tired, but not as mad.

I signed up for eMusic.com, just to get the 25 free songs. So far, I've only gotten 4, because it's all Indie music and I can't find much of anything I want. They DO, have, however, all (I think) of Jonathan Coulton's albums, both of What Made Milwaukee Famous's albums, four of the Young Fresh Fellows albums, a few of They Might Be Giants albums (I finally got my digital hands on Man, It's So Loud in Here), the album from The Giraffes that Chris Ballew was on, Chris and Tad's only album (which I already have), and two of PUSA's albums (both of which I already have), so I'm sure I can find something to get.

The Left 4 Dead pre-order demo came out today. This game is EPIC. Sure, there are a few bugs here and there, but if they can work them out, I can easily see this a the Game of the Year, although this year, it has some pretty tough competitors. I'm trying to talk my brother into pre-ordering, so he can get the demo, and ACD wants it, but he'll have to talk his mom into letting him get it. I hope he can do it, too, because no-one should miss out on this game.

AUGH, I'm so behind on NaNo. I haven't written anything for a few days now, and I'm just stuck in the story. I'm thinking of just writing portions of stories, and then compiling them all in one book, you know, so you can make up the ending for yourself. That way, you will never be let down by a shitty ending. Kids today need to use their imagination more anyway.

More NaNo #2

Well, so far I have 4265 words. I ended up typing about 1500 more words after I posted yesterday, but I haven't written much today. I'm still about 1000 words above what I need for today, so I can afford to just stop for tonight. I've just been really tired lately. I went to sleep at like, 7 P.M. yesterday.

Oh, and if you didn't know, today is Daylight Savings Time (or just coming out of it, I don't remember. I do know, though, that you set your clocks back an hour.), so don't forget to set all your clocks.

I played some more Fallout 3 today. It's just so freaking awesome. I've been procrastinating, though. I haven't played t as much as I've wanted to. See, I get scared really easily. I even used to be afraid of my bedroom curtains when I was 3 (but that's an entirely different story for another time) and just watching my mom play Myst would give me nightmares for a week. I was scared to death of those talking books. Fallout 3 is a lot like Oblivion in the sense that it's got "dungeon"-like places, and those things scared the shit out of me. It's just so dark and creepy, and several times people and enemies just pop out from around the corner and almost literally scare the shit out of me. FO3 and Oblivion are both fantastic games, but those freaking dungeons scare me half to death.

More NaNo

Well, NaNoWriMo starts today. I've gotten 1857 words so far. You only need 1666 words per day to make the 50k in 30 days, but since I finished today's early, I'll probably write even more later, because I know that eventually I'm going to get bored writing, so it'll be good to be ahead, just in case I miss a day or something.

Mallory (my ten-year-old sister, if you didn't know) has been bugging me a lot lately. She seems to get obsessed with TV shows really easily, and it seems like every time she has talked to me in the past month, she starts the conversation with "Hey Matthew, I was just watching Family Matters and..." She even woke me up one night to tell me her theory as to why Steve and Stefan (Steve's clone (she didn't know he was a clone at the time, hence her theorizing)) can be in the same room at the same time. It's really getting annoying.

Oh, well, I'm going to go play Guitar Hero.

I Beat LBP

Yeah, I beat LittleBIGPlanet. It wasn't all that hard, the story mode is only about 8 hours long. I've been playing user-created levels for a while, and I found what is now one of my favorite levels, purely for originality: a working Pac-Man level. It's absolutely fantastic. I'm also hoping to write a review on LBP soon, so keep an eye out for that.

I've got to get in the bed now. I've been up for 22 hours and I'm freaking tired.

Usual Crap

I wonder if too many people know that Jonathan Coulton did do anything other than Still Alive. I mean, Still Alive was a great song, don't get me wrong, but he's done some other great stuff, too, such as Tom Cruise Crazy and the theme song for Code Monkeys, appropriately titled Code Monkey. Actually, I think the song came first, but whatever. Another great song is W's Duty, where he took a bunch of voice clips from George W. Bush and spliced it all together and put it to music. It's quite hilarious, actually. Then, there's Re: Your Brains, which is about a zombie politely asking his coworker if he can eat his brains.

I'm debating on whether or not I should get a shower. I got one last night and I didn't really do anything today, but I played the drums in RB2 a lot, and that always gets me pretty sweaty. Meh, I think it can wait until tomorrow.

I've been thinking a lot about NaNoWriMo, and I'm not entirely sure whether or not to feel excited, intimidated, overwhelmed, or nauseous. I haven't really thought much about the story of the story(/stories?), but I've been thinking quite a bit on what should be in it. Oh, and I just realized that if I win NaNo, I can call my book an award winning novel. Oh hells yes.

Damn You, Rock Band 2(But Only For a Minute)

Bah, Rock Band 2 has gotten Nine in the Afternoon by Panic(!(?)) at the Disco stuck in my head. Why couldn't it get a good song stuck, like Livin' on a Prayer, Lump, The Middle, That's What You Get, Carry on Wayward Son, Pretend We're Dead, or Conventional Lover? Although for every one crappy song in RB2, there's five that make up for it. RB2 has the best set list of any music/rhythm game I think I've played.

I got rid of this stupid ad-blocker Firefox add-on that I had (it didn't even work; it blocked the wrong stuff), so now I can see the PUSA website, and use the PUSAradio, which lets you listen to a lot of their full songs, so if you're interested at all in them, I'd suggest you check it out.

I'm still jotting down ideas for NaNoWriMo. I've almost decided to just make a book full of short stories, or maybe a single story, but told from several different angles, like Half-Life. Man, I love Half-Life for lots of reasons, but that's a huge reason. I'm a big fan of that different-angle stroytelling. LOST does it pretty good, too. Oh yeah, I just remembered I have LOST TiVo'd. I need to watch that.

It Doesn't Suck!

Yes! I went out and got Rock Band 2 earlier today (Oh, and I was an indirect asshole to somebody I don't even know...more in a minute), and if you know anything about me, you'd probably know that I'm a huge President of the United States fan, so I was ecstatic when I found out that Lump, one of their songs, would be in RB2. I played through several songs for about two hours before I finally unlocked it, but it was so worth it. It doesn't suck, thank God. I was so afraid that they would screw up that song, but they didn't, and I thank Harmonix for that (I actually sent them a "Thank You" email when I first found out that Lump would be in RB2). RB2 is also very good, much better than the first. I might end up writing a review for it.

Now to the interesting story. Anyway, this morning, I went and asked my mom if we could go get RB2, and she said no, and that she didn't feel like going anywhere. After some begging, she said that if I called them and they said they had it, then we would go. Now, I'm not a very social person, and I really hate using the telephone. It's like, every time I call anyone I end up having a really awkward conversation, and I really hate awkward situations. I finally got the balls, so I called them and the dude said "Well, we have two more copies, and some other people have called and are on their way down here, so I'd suggest you hurry" or something to that effect, so I went and told my mom and she got up really quick and we headed out the door. When we got there, I went in by myself, waited in line behind a few people, then when I finally got up to the counter, I asked the dude if they still had any, and I ended up getting the last copy, and I assume we had beat another caller there. So yeah, I guess it's good that we live five minutes away from GameStop.

One more thing: I'm thinking of doing NaNoWriMo this year. I've never done anything like that before, as I just recently got interesting in writing. I just don't have many ideas. I guess I can just write down random ideas until then and then try to fit them all into some sort of story.
