Why is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time so fucking popular? I mean, I've never really liked any of the Zelda games, but it nearly infuriates me to keep hearing about this game when nobody ever says why it's so great. I've played several Zelda games (Twilight Princess, OoT Master Edition or whatever the GC port was called, LttP, TLoZ on the NES, Wind Waker, and a Zelda game my friend had on one of the really old Gameboys) hoping I would finally get into the series, but I've just never liked them.
I guess one reason I don't like them is because there's no coherent "storyline" to speak of. It's just the same story told over and over in every game with something a little different thrown in, like the Wolf for TP, or that hat that shrinks you or whatever. Every time Link is told that he has to rid the world of evil, he's like "Ganon, who's that?" or "Zelda, who's that?". If he had really been saving that bitches ass for 20 years, don't you think he'd at least remember her name? I know he doesn't talk, but that must be what's going through his head.
Anyway, back to OoT. WHY THE FUCK IS IT SO FUCKING POPULAR? Honestly, out of the several Zelda games I've played, this one seems to be one of the worst. I know it's a 10+ year old game, so I'll excuse the graphics, but that doesn't mean the controls have any right to suck.
Eh, fuck it. I forgot what point I was trying to make. I think it was something about how I've heard how terribly hard the Water Temple is.

The lack of a coherent plotline in the series is annoying. Well, it's not that the storyline is incoherent - it's that it's paper-thin. Something deeper and more compelling would be greatly appreciated.
Link doesn't remember anything because the games take place at various times throughout Hyrule's history. Link and Zelda always appear as reincarnations of the (presumedly) first Link and Zelda of The Minish Cap. Ganon, on the other hand, is always the exact same person, and should be saying, "Oh shit, what now?" whenever the current Link shows up.
Ocarina of Time was revolutionary for the time. Targeting systems were practically unheard of, and Z-Targeting was amazing for the time; the graphics were also impressive, as was the scope of the game, since it was one of the first 3D open-world titles (though it limited its open world by forcing you to unlock areas of it). The Stone of Agony also made it one of the first games to integrate rumble as a (minor) gameplay mechanic rather than simply using it as part of the presentation.
However good the game was in 1998, though, there's no question that OoT has not aged well at all. The graphics are bad by anyone's standards and the controls, in particular the camera, leave a lot to be desired when compared to a modern game. For 1998? Perfection. For 2009? A nostalgia piece to be appreciated for what it was at the time it was released.
I personally have enjoyed every game in the series, but Majora's Mask and Wind Waker are the best, at least in my opinion. If you don't like Wind Waker, give up on the series completely (if you haven't already).
