It's a Southern Thing, Apparently.

I posted yesterday about drinking Boiled Custard and how freaking delicious it is, and one of my friends posted a comment. She's from waaaay up north, and the Wikipedia entry says that it's mainly a southern thing (because Wikipedia is always right). Judging by her comment, it sounded like she didn't know what it was, so I decided to dedicate today's blog post to it.

* 1 quart whole milk
* 5 eggs
* 1 cup white sugar
* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1. Into the lower pot of a double boiler, add water. In the upper pot, add milk. Heat through over medium heat.
2. Beat eggs together until light. Add sugar and mix well. Pour a small portion of hot milk into the eggs and sugar to warm and thin this portion. Pour slowly into hot milk.
3. Cook, stirring constantly until it will coat a spoon. Do not over cook. Add vanilla extract. Chill in refrigerator before serving.

It actually sounds disgusting when I read the ingredients, but I assure you, it's not. It kinda tastes like semi-lukewarm vanilla ice cream mixed with eggs. Again, it sounds gross, but it's not.

Like I said yesterday, my mom bought some at the store. It's good, but not quite as good as my great-grandmother's. Her's is the best.

Anyway, it's freaking delicious, and I think everyone should try it at least once.
